Record Turnout on Scrubs Despite Slippery Mud and Autumn Chill
Including some 'runseeing' local architectural highlights during Open House 2017
Wormwood Scrubs served up hazy autumnal 10 degree chill with low winds and some lovely slippery mud to welcome Fulham Palace parkrun refugees (closed for Latin Foodie festival vehicle manoeuvring).
We had another record turnout as 119 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 32 were first timers and 10 recorded new Personal Bests!
It was more than twice as many as ran mid-September last year. This weekend was also Open House 2017 and it was good to see a few parkrunners runseeing the local architectural highlights. The Koestler Arts Centre in the Former Governor’s House at HMP Wormwood Scrubs was open.
Incidentally we’d be interested to hear from anyone with any connections with the prison service. The prison continues to be what Wormwood Scrubs is most famous for!
There were also tours of White City Place on the site of the 1908 London Olympics Great Stadium where the first 26 miles 385 yard marathon was run from Windsor Castle.

The top Male placings:
Milan MISAK (SM25-29) of Serpentine RC, our old Czech friend formerly of Imperial College track and field was first over the line in 18:48 - 6th time in 30 appearances.
Lukas SAULICH (SM30-34) of Willesden Triathlon Club, was second over the line in 19:41.
Philip NICHOLSON (SM25-29) of Newcastle University Cross Country Club, was third over the line in 19:55
The top Female placings:
Alice RIDDELL-WEBSTER (VW50-54) of Fulham RC, was first (11th overall) over the line in 20:59 - first time in 2 appearances.
Sacha KEMP-POTTER (VW45-49) was second (27th overall) over the line in 23:46.
Aramay ROBERTSON (JW11-14) was third (29th overall) over the line in 23:57.
The three highest age grades were recorded by:
Alice RIDDELL-WEBSTER (VW50-54) – 79.90% for the time 20:59 (11th overall).
Dineke AUSTIN (VW65-69) – 75.40% for the time 27:18 (71st overall).
Paul WAKE (VM50-54) – 71.76% for the time 20:43 (10th overall).

Parrun 326 - Saturday 9 September
As hopes of an Indian summer recede, those weeks of scorching runs and a baked hard common were replaced on Saturday morning by a dewy wet slippery start and a crisp autumnal snap in the air. The temperature change has come as relief for some runners with many crossing the line saying they had bagged some respectable times.
There was a superb turnout of runners today, with 74 individuals taking part - clocking some great times, although I had forgotten my barcode and didn't register in 30th place, heeding the lesson to everyone to remember to pack your barcode in advance of coming to the run and not to leave with the plastic results tokens.
We were also joined by one first time park runner in Kenny FOX and some brilliant Wormwood Scrub only first timers - Kenneth MALTON (18:16) and Owain WLSON (19:14) who came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the men's results. However the leading man was Thames Valley Harrier regular Ryan KEANE with a great time (18:02).
The leading female was Sally NASH (21:22) who finished some way ahead of Wormwood First Timers Alice JOHNSTON (22:43) and Rachel FARROW (24.11).
There were also PB's for Cindy CHEETHAM, Consuelo RIESCO MARTINEZ, Amber MULLENS, Colin ADESOKAN, Brent WILLIAMS, Sam WILLIAMS, James HANCOCK, Conor RYAN, Darren PEARCE and Paul MONROE.
