Summer Brings Big Rise in Numbers of Wormwood Scrubs Runners

Everyone welcome to join the parkrun on Saturday mornings

A total of 87 runners gathered on the Scrubs for our 313th parkrun on Saturday. Numbers have been up significantly in recent weeks, and everyone is very welcome. We were also delighted to welcome back Martin Gillies, former run director, back temporarily in London. Martin was put in charge of the finish funnel! – as well as finishing in a very respectable 21:26.

The course was completely dry, in its summer mode, although there were plenty of hazards for the unwary, including mole holes, mud ruts down the back straight, and a horse and cart doing strange and probably illegal circuits of the course in the opposite direction.

The first male to cross the line didn’t have his barcode, and so wasn’t recorded (don’t forget your barcode, folks!).  Harry Reynolds was second over the line, with a new PB of 18:48, followed by Sebastien Maillard, also with a new PB of 18:57.

The first woman over the line was Melina Duer of Thames Valley Harriers, in 21:01, followed by  Rosie Vallance, also of Thames Valley Harriers, in 21:56 and Olivia Colegrave of Thames Valley Harriers, with a new PB of 22:39.

The three highest age grades were recorded by: Malcolm Balk (VM60-64) – 84.11% for the time 19:24 (6thoverall), David Pitt (VM60-64) – 83.18% for the time 19:37 (9th overall), and Melina Duer (JW11-14) – 74.78% for the time 21:01 (15th overall).

There were 14 PBs today: in addition to Harry, Sebastien and Olivia, PBs were achieved by Luke Whittington, William McAvock, Jan Kraus Stanko, James McSweeney, Jake Hawley, Simeon Williamson, Diana Leth, David Cardesin Moinelo, Sonia Marcos Hernandez,  Catherine Altmeyer and Andrew Nairn. Well done, everyone!
