World Sevens Football has confirmed that Everton Women and the London City Lionesses will join the inaugural W7F London Edition next month, expanding the tournament’s lineup as preparations continue for its first staging in the United Kingdom. The competition will take place from 28 to 30 May at Brentford FC’s Gtech Community Stadium, where eight elite clubs will compete in a fast-paced 7-a-side format designed to showcase the creativity and intensity of the women’s game.
The addition of the two clubs strengthens a field that already includes Aston Villa Women, Manchester United Women, Tottenham Hotspur Women and West Ham United Women, with the final two participating teams due to be announced shortly. The London event follows earlier editions in Portugal and the United States and marks the next step in W7F’s expansion into major football markets.
Tobin Heath, a member of the W7F Player Advisory Council, said the London tournament would capture the personality and flair that define the Women’s Super League. She explained that the 7v7 format gives players the freedom to express themselves and creates an atmosphere that supporters will enjoy across the three-day event.
Everton Women’s Director of Women’s Football Operations, Catherine Wright, said the club was pleased to be involved in the first W7F tournament to be held in the UK. She described the format as an exciting opportunity for players, staff and supporters to experience something different within the women’s game.
London City Lionesses Chief Executive Martin Semmens said the competition offered a fitting finale to the club’s first season in the WSL. He emphasised that innovation and fan experience remain central to the growth of women’s football and that the W7F format provides a new way for supporters to engage with the sport. He added that bringing many of the world’s best players together in London would create an accessible and memorable experience for fans.
W7F Chief Executive Sarah Cummins said the inclusion of Everton and the Lionesses reflected the ambition behind the London edition. She explained that the tournament is designed to bring supporters closer to the game and to celebrate the end of the WSL season with an event that is fast-moving, entertaining and full of energy.
Tickets are now on general sale at worldsevens.com, with adult prices starting at £17. Supporters can purchase single-day passes, three-day packages or family tickets. Further details about the remaining clubs and broadcast arrangements will be released in the coming weeks.
