It took Old Meadonians three quarters of this match to quell a combative challenge from host three divisions below them and then it was only when Henry Turner came off the bench to claim the man of the match award that justice was done. Meads’other hero was keeper Kris Sayers who,clattered in the first half, played on with a badly bruised rib to keep a clean sheet.
Meads’ usually smooth attack, although ably lead by Steve Bowring suffered from an attack of diffidence on the part of paceman Ed Glover and despite constant prompting from mid-field, they were kept at bay by the somewhat rustic efforts of their hosts.
It was Turner’s intervention with half an hour to go that brought reward, his ball holding skills giving Meads’ attack a more sustained impetus. Within five minutes he had cracked home a Bowring flick on from a corner. Almost immediately he took a through ball from Kevin Quinn, dummied inside his marker and curled the ball into the top far corner from twenty yards.
Not content with that, it was his reverse pass that put in Glover for the third. The news that Glover could be out for two months with a chipped bone in his foot is disturbing so thank goodness for Turner’s form.
