Muddle Through
Amateur Football Alliance Senior Cup Old Meadonians
3 Southgate County Old Boys 1
Old Meadonians went through to the third round of the A.F.A. senior cup despite playing below par for half of the match. By ten minutes they’d missed four open goals and given undeserving Southgate from division one two chances in return.
It was fortuitous that the visitors chose a lawless approach and paid accordingly, with two bookings in each half and two second half sendings off.
Striker Steve Bowring gave Meads the long awaited lead five minutes before the break, lobbing the keeper from the edge of the area. The visitors levelled fifteen minutes later as a result of defensive indiscipline but Ed Glover retaliated immediately with a fine far post header.
The first red card for blatant assault eased Meads’ burden on the half hour giving the hosts the chance to make sure with a Ben Fox header from a corner.
