Transport for London (TfL) has issued an update to clarify which roadworks will be taking place on the A4 Great West Road over the next week.

Resurfacing work on the eastbound carriageway near the junction near Cedars Road that was scheduled for the weekend from Friday 13 January to Monday 16 January will no longer be taking place. This is due to the cancellation of the closure of the eastbound A4 between M4 junction 2 and Hogarth Roundabout. Both these projects will take place at a later date to be confirmed.

The planned works on the westbound side of the A4 are still scheduled to go ahead. There will be overnight closures from 10pm on Monday 16 January to 5am on Tuesday 17 January and from 10pm on 17 January to 5am on Wednesday 18 January of A4 Cedars Road westbound between Milnthorpe Road and Sutton Lane South. There will be no southbound access to Sutton Court Road from the A4 and no access to the A4 from Sutton Court Road southbound and Eastbourne Road as well as no access to the A4 from Hogarth Roundabout.

Originally the eastbound M4/A4 through Brentford and Chiswick was due to be closed on the first two full weekends of 2023 but it is understood that this was postponed due to fears of the works coinciding with rail strikes. These closures had already been put back from last December when unusually cold weather made it possible to proceed.

Final works will be carried out over two weekends and are expected to take place in late January or early February. Signed diversion routes will be in place for local traffic.

The work is to improve the long-term condition of the Cromwell Road Rail Bridge, road and pavements. The bridge carries the A4 Great West Road over a railway line between Chiswick Roundabout and Hogarth Roundabout.

The cancellation of the weekend closure means that enforcement of access restrictions in the Grove Park area will take place as normal this Saturday (14 January).
