South Parade Closure Reportedly Cancelled

Ealing Council look set to carry out work in December

It looks as though the planned closure of South Parade that was due to take place for at least four days starting this Monday (24 October) is no longer taking place.

Although no announcement has been made by Ealing Council, Southfield ward councillor Andrew Steed has said the closure has been postponed until December.

The original intention was to completely close the road between the Fishers Lane mini-roundabout and the junction with Acton Lane by the Duke of Sussex pub.

This had been timed for the October half-term to reduce the inevitable traffic disruption, but it had also been anticipated that the westbound lane closures on the A4 would have finished by this time. The resulting congestion from the work on the A4 has been creating extra pressure on South Parade as drivers seek an alternative route to travel west.

Transport for London announced this week that the condition of the Cromwell Road Rail Bridge on the A4 in Chiswick is far worse than they originally anticipated and the westbound lane restrictions on the A4 are now continuing until at least 6 November.

Work has already commenced at South Parade on pavements and kerbs but this does not require any road or lane closures. The full closure of South Parade would be to enable resurfacing work.

Despite calls from some local residents to remove the restrictions on the Fishers Lane underpass while South Parade is closed, Ealing Council appears unwilling to consider this action.
