For the last five years a house on Park Road has been festooned with Christmas decorations and they are already up for the current festive season.
Every year more is added to the display making this year’s the biggest and best ever.
The tradition has made it one of the most photographed house in Chiswick and it now has its own Instagram account which people are asked to tag when they take a picture.
Homeowner Julie Lalou says that she can’t sit outsidefor more that five minutes without someone stopping to take a picture. She adds that they generally receive amazing feedback and that the neighbours are very supportive.
However, the point of the decorations is not simply to spread festive cheer. Julie’s twin boys have a genetic syndrome called Fragile X. The Christmas Lights help raise awareness of the family’s campaign to raise charitable donations for the FRAXA Research Foundation which is an American based organisation researching a cure for the disease. Every year since the house has been lit up, they have raised in the region of £500 to £1,000. Even though it is only November the fundraising drive for 2023 has already raised over £900 this year.
Julie says, “This year there was a big breakthrough for a potential cure so fundraising is even more crucial.”
