Suns Comes Out for Runners on Wormwood Scrubs

Parkrun 151 - April 26
Following a deluge in London on Friday, the ground was spike-friendly soft again at Wormwood Scrubs this weekend.
Thankfully, come Saturday morning, the rain held off, the wind died down and the sun crept out for the field of 41 parkrunners.
Gideon Reid was first over the line this week with a time of 19:01 – his second win at the Scrubs. The first female runner to cross the line was Maire Neilson Gorman with a time of 21:09. This was her fourth first place out of four appearances.
Eight first timers joined us, including five London Fire Brigade officers, and five of our runners recorded PBs. Congratulations!
With only six weeks or so until the end of our year (11th June), the women’s and men’s league tables are currently headed by Marion Brydson with 2974 points and Nick Michael with 3519 points, respectively.
Without meaning to jinx her, Marion is exactly 500 points ahead of her closest rival and looks set for a comfortable win. Nick, however, is just 38 points clear of Peter Jordan making it all to play for in the battle for the men’s trophy.

Parkrun 150 - April 19
A slightly chaotic start for the new Wormwood Scrubs parkrun director this morning with the keys only turning up ten minutes before start, but with everyone mucking in we managed to get markers out and a make-do finish line in place to start the race almost on time .
Weather was gorgeous once again – a slight headwind was a pleasant antidote to the sunshine that greeted us on the second lap.
Thanks to the Easter break, it was our smallest field for a while with just 28 runners, including six first timers. Special shout out to my sister Katie Taggart and brother in law who are Pennington Flash parkrun regulars.
Neilson Hall sped home to take first place in an incomprehensibly fast 15:57. Congratulations too to Rosie Vallance – our first female home with a time of 22:32. And well done to Idris Fertout and, oh yeah me, who secured new PBs.

Finally, congratulations to Andrea Broughton for finishing the London Marathon last weekend in 3:40 and a very happy 50th birthday from all of us.
