Council consults public on guidelines for future development

Residents are being invited to help shape the future of their local area by giving their views on plans for the growth and evolution of White City in years to come.

Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) Council is consulting on a set of guidelines to influence major future development.

This important document will guide how White City grows and changes over the next 20 years. Up to 5,000 new homes and 10,000 new jobs are expected to be created, along with new community facilities and transport links.

The guidelines cover the White City Opportunity Area, which stretches from the south side of Shepherds Bush Green to land north of the Westway.

The White City Opportunity Area Planning Framework, as it is called, is being produced by the council and the Greater London Authority. It is a supplementary planning document and would supplement policies contained within the borough’s Core Strategy and the Mayor’s London Plan.

Councillor Nicholas Botterill, leader of H&F Council, said: " It is important that local people make their views about the guidelines known, so we can continue to work together to build a White City that brings new opportunities for all."

In the first round of consultation in 2011, comments were submitted by 291 people and local groups, leading to a number of changes to the draft document. Since then several large-scale planning applications have been received and decided by H&F Council, in line with existing policy and the draft guidelines, with the aim of creating new homes and jobs in the area.

The draft White City Opportunity Area Planning Framework and relevant background papers are open for public comment for six weeks through till Friday 2 August 2013.
