"Topping Out " ceremony brings 2014 opening a step nearer

The final batch of concrete was poured this week in the £30million Collaborative Care Centre in Bloemfontein Road.

The centre is on course to open next year, when it will become a vital new hub, with GPs and community health teams working alongside social services to offer connected local care for residents of White City.

170 new homes are being built above the centre, and these will all be affordable, offering more local people the opportunity to buy a home for the first time through shared ownership or discount market sale.

Further benefits will include 24 flats that are accessible to wheelchair users, a new supermarket and pharmacy, plus a grand new entrance through the building to Wormholt Park, which is also being regenerated and equipped with new sports facilities.

Community leaders, councillors and stakeholders gathered on Thursday, February 28 afternoon for a "topping out" ceremony marking the end of major construction for the scheme, which is being delivered through a joint venture between Building Better Health West London and Hammersmith & Fulham (H&F) Clinical Commissioning Group and Primary Care Trust, Notting Hill housing Group in partnership with Galliford Try Partnerships and H&F Council.

Services to be provided include GP practices, community health - such as the diabetes, child development and community dental services. There will also be a focus on helping local people stay healthy.

Dr Dr Tim Spicer, chair of H&F clinical commissioning group said: : "We want local people to be able to walk in off the street and see a health and social care professional at the same time. It is a model of care that is integral to our out of hospital strategy and this building provides the blueprint for how we want services to be developed across the borough.”
