Fourth Arrest in Askew Road Shooting Investigation


21-year-old man held on suspicion of murder of Ionut Lazar

Another arrest has been made by detectives investigating the murder of a Romanian man in Shepherd's Bush last month.

This makes a total of four people who have been held in connection with the shooting of 28-year-old Ionut Lazar at a residential address in Askew Road, W12 on Saturday, 22 October.

A 21-year-old man was arrested on Thursday, 17 November, on suspicion of the murder. He is currently in custody at a south London police station.

Man Stabbed to Death on Askew Road

One man has already been charged with murder in connection with the shooting. Hanad Mohamed, aged 18, of Parlaunt Road, Slough is currently remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey for a plea and case management hearing on 16 January 2017. He is also charged with one count of robbery on a second male committed on Saturday, 22 October. A provisional trial date has been set for 18 April 2017.

A 17-year-old boy arrested in west London on 27 October on suspicion of murder was released with no further action.

A 16-year-old boy arrested in west London on 30 October has been bailed to a date in early December, pending further enquiries.

Ionut Lazar arrived in the country just two days before his death. Police were called to the scene by paramedics at approximately 2.40am when they found Mr Lazar unconscious. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. St. Elmo Road and Becklow Road were both cordoned off with police tape as forensic officers searched the area.

A post mortem showed that Mr Lazar was shot rather than stabbed as police had initially believed.
