Hounslow Council has set a target of having a delivery locker within five minutes of every home in the borough.

It believes a network like this would reduce congestion by causing the number of missed deliveries to fall. Delivery van traffic is believed to be the fastest growing type of vehicle movements across London.

It has entered into a partnership with a company called YEEP! with the initial roll out of the Neighbourhood Parcel Locker Network taking place in Brentford, Isleworth and Feltham.

The lockers are accessible by residents 24 hours a day, and offer an option for parcel collection and return.

Currently 4 YEEP lockers installed in Brentford/Isleworth:

• Windermere House - Oriel Estate in Isleworth
• Fraser House - Green Dragon Lane
• Clayponds Community Centre
• Clayponds Lane in Brentford.

The locker installations are being funded by the delivery companies that offer out-of-home deliveries within the borough.

YEEP! lockers are different to other locker services as they can be used by all couriers and all online retailers. This means you can have multiple deliveries from multiple couriers from multiple online retailers to the same locker. Many existing lockers in the borough only cater to one company such as the ones operated by Amazon.

The lockers are battery operated rather than mains powered which means they don’t need groundworks and access to mains power, making the roll out of the network more practical.

Councillor Katherine Dunne, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council and Cabinet Member for Climate, Environment and Transport, said, “We are pleased to launch the initial phase of our Neighbourhood Parcel Locker Network, and look forward to working with YEEP! to offer a convenient and sustainable alternative to home deliveries for Hounslow residents.

“YEEP! lockers help contribute to a cleaner and greener Hounslow by providing Feltham, Brentford, and Isleworth communities with the ability to collect and return parcels via lockers that are just minutes from households. By utilising our new parcel network residents will help reduce the number of delivery vehicles on roads, and improve Hounslow’s air quality.

“Ultimately, we’re targeting a borough-wide rollout of YEEP! out-of-home delivery lockers in the months to come, and will be supporting residents and businesses to make the choices that both protect our environment, and increase the convenience of returning and receiving parcels.”

Noel Shapton, CEO of YEEP!, said, “Receiving packages in London is particularly problematic, with so many of us back at work during the day. YEEP! lockers will help resolve those personal delivery issues and have a great impact on reducing congestion in the borough.”

Hounslow and Delivering London (YEEP!) are part of a multiple-borough pilot including Kingston, Sutton, and Lambeth Councils, with the intention ultimately being to implement a London-wide network of new out-of-home delivery options.
