The Mayor of the London Borough of Hounslow, Cllr Karen Smith and Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London, Ms. R J Prescott DL paid a visit to the FoodBox last Tuesday (20 August). They were there to meet the frontline volunteers and see the all the hard work carried out daily, in order to provide emergency food support to those in crisis.

Hounslow Community FoodBox was set up in 2012 and started delivering support to those in need from April 2013. The service was set up in response to the rising number of local people facing poverty and to provide support with both essential food supplies and assistance to get their lives back on track. Each year the number of people supported by the FoodBox has increased, and the many success stories continue encourage their volunteers to give even more time and personal support.

The Mayor of the London Borough of Hounslow has chosen Hounslow Community FoodBox as her charity for the duration of her Mayoral year. Cllr Smith said, “The wonderful volunteers work incredibly hard to ensure that there is a food parcel for everyone who needs one. I am always impressed by the dedication shown by all involved.”

Deputy Lieutenant Rosi Prescott added, “I was hugely impressed by not only the choice and variety of food but also and just importantly - the warmth of the volunteers who give their time to support the Hounslow Community FoodBox.”

In a statement, Honourable Alderwoman Corinna Smart Chair on behalf of the Trustees at the FoodBox said, “I love that the volunteers are like a family and really appreciate visitors like Madam Mayor and our Deputy Lieutenant who show such appreciation for all the wonderful work that FoodBox volunteers do.”
