Twenty young people from the borough of Hounslow took part in this year’s TCS Mini Marathon which was held on 20 April the day before the London Marathon.
Ranging from age 12 to 17, the promising athletes ran 2.6km to cross the same finish line as the elite athletes and charity runners to receive their medals.
Team Hounslow achieved some excellent results in the race that saw 12,000 youngsters compete. The team's success included Louis Moore (Kew House School) who placed the highest for the borough and finished with an impressive time of 8 minutes which put him in 17 th place in the U17s boys age group which was a top 5% finish.
Each of the young athletes who competed in the Mini Marathon trained at Lampton Leisure sites across the borough, with Jonathan Barbour, Sports and Community Development Officer, training a number of team members at Osterley Sports & Athletic Centre.
Jonathan Barbour said, “On behalf of the entire Lampton Leisure team, I would like to congratulate each of the athletes who took part in this year's Mini Marathon. In the lead-up to the race, our team worked closely with local clubs and schools to ensure each runner representing Hounslow had access to high-quality training facilities. The Mini Marathon is a great way to encourage young people to get active, improving both their physical and mental health, and we are delighted to support Hounslow’s young athletes in taking part.”
