Hammersmith and Fulham Gains New Chief Inspector


Farooq Sheikh becomes borough's Operations and Response Manager

Chief Inspector Farooq Sheikh joins Hammersmith and Fulham borough.

Farooq joined West Midlands Police in December 1992. He was posted to Steel house Lane, covering all of Birmingham City Centre and outlining suburbs. He worked on a number of teams, including a proactive crime team targeting criminals, as well as a period as a traffic officer.

On promotion to Sergeant in 2001 Farooq managed a variety of teams from Neighbourhood Policing, Crime Fighting, Probationer Development Unit and a Serious Acquisitive Crime Team.

Farooq was promoted to Inspector in 2005 and has managed to and led departments, which include: Response Teams, Traffic Departments, Proactive Crime Teams, Offender Management and the Detective Office as a Detective Inspector and Temporary Detective Chief Inspector.

In 2013, Farooq successfully completed a Masters Degree in Criminology, utilising the theory of why and how criminals offend into operational practice.

Farooq has also worked as the Operations Manager on the Central Motorway Policing Group, a three force collaboration before his final post as the Force Positive Action Recruitment Lead. Farooq also has three years international policing experience, having worked in Alberta and British Columbia in Canada.

Farooq joined the Metropolitan Police in April 2016 on promotion to substantive Chief Inspector and is extremely excited about joining the borough of Hammersmith and Fulham as the new Operations and Response Manager. Farooq's role will also includes being the Professional Standards Lead for the borough.
