Last Night of the Proms

September 14, 2024

St Peter’s Church is inviting local people to enjoy a series of musical events this month, beginning with a celebration of the Last Night of the Proms this Saturday, 14 September.

Starting at 7pm, the evening promises drinks, canapés, flag-waving, bunting and general bonhomie, culminating with a sing along to Rule Britannia, Land of Hope and Glory, Jerusalem, the National Anthem, and Auld Lang Syne, all beamed live from the Albert Hall to a giant screen in the church.

On Saturday, 21 September, from 2pm till 5pm, all are welcome to an open rehearsal by the Addison Singers of Poulenc’s Gloria, led by Matthew Thomas Morgan and Matthew Hough.

Tickets cost £15, while it’s free for everyone aged under 30, and it will followed by a free performance at 5 pm for friends, family, and passersby!

The company is promising a mix of beloved opera selections, heart-warming songs and inspirational religious pieces, with popular arias that make you laugh, songs that make you cry, and rollicking choruses that make you want to join in.

The concert will include familiar favourites from operas by Puccini, Verdi, Mozart, Johann Strauss, Gilbert and Sullivan and more, with the odd (and very Merry) surprise thrown in.

Book tickets for the concert, priced from £5 to £20 here.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least two articles a month with your logo appearing if supplied.
