PICNIC IN THE PARK MARKS JUBILEE VISIT BY THE QUEEN TO WEST LONDON

Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke Of Edinburgh met the people of West London on Tuesday 25 June when they visited Gunnersbury Park.

More than 600 people from the four London boroughs of Hounslow, Hammersmith & Fulham, Hillingdon and Ealing, celebrated the West London Jubilee Day with a very special picnic in the park.

They were entertained with music and drama performances by community groups drawn from across West London that celebrated the area's cultural diversity.

Performances included schools, choirs and dancers from west London's Polish, Irish Kurdish and Asian communities. There was also a performance by the London College of Jazz.

Five hundred schoolchildren from the four boroughs gathered outside the museum in Gunnersbury Park to see the Royal party arrive.

The Queen and Duke met youngsters visiting the museum before having lunch with invited guests from the four boroughs. Tents and marquees were set up and they provided shade on a hot sunny day. The guests were given Golden Jubilee picnic boxes. The Royal party dined in Gunnersbury House after receiving a tour of the museum.

After lunch, the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh walked through the community picnic in the park and met local people stopping to speak and accept flowers.

Later, the enclosed area of the park was opened for everyone attending to join in fun and watch the staged entertainment.
