Old Actonians Squash Club Has Good Cause To Boast...

Winning the Middlesex Squash League's Club of the Year for 2007

It's official - Old Actonian Squash Club is hard to match...when it comes to a warm welcome.

The Sports Club has been awarded 'Club of the Year' by the Middlesex Squash League for the first time in 30 years.

Club member, Steve Barnes, explained how the award works to Ealing Today: "Visitors for matches score you, as a club, for hospitality," said Steve. "So that's how good is the food, the ambience and the people hosting the evening."

Middlesex Squash League General Secretary, Al Robertson, elaborated on the award system: "The award is judged by the Middlesex Squash League Committee, which consists of a few people who administer the league, overseen by Jack Harris, the Vets and Vintage secretary, and myself as the men's league/general secretary," he said. "It is awarded to clubs for their contribution to the league not just by the players but the club as a whole.  Old Actonians have long been members of the league and consistently manage to field an affable bunch of players who's epitomise the spirit of the league."

Old Actonian Club Director Roger Keane is thrilled: “We are ecstatic to win this award as it is a reward for many years of providing first class hospitality to our members and visitors," he said. " Old Actonians is a lovely and successful local facility which is always on the lookout for new squash players to join a friendly club.”

The Club was formed in 1976, has a current membership of around 180, and is always on the lookout for new members. The courts are of a high quality and are given a thorough annual maintenance.

The squash year starts on 1 October. Squash members must also be members of the Old Actonians Sports and Social Club.

The Club runs domestic leagues throughout the year and in the winter months runs around 15 leagues. The leagues are changed approximately every six weeks and provide new members an opportunity to be quickly integrated into the Club.

There are several Club competitions throughout the season, including a handicap tournament and the Club Championships. The finals are held in April, followed by a presentation of the various trophies and a social evening.

New members can join by collecting a membership form from behind the bar.
