Ealing Council is conducting two short surveys of drivers in the borough to help shape its policy towards electric vehicles,
The charging strategy is aiming to help make it easier for more residents to make the switch to electric vehicles and meet the expected future demand for them.
The strategy highlights the need for an efficient network of charging points, making it easier for residents to charge their vehicles close to home, work, or during leisure activities.
Opposition parties have called for a faster rollout of chargepoints and allowing EV owners without driveways to charge across the pavement in front of their homes.
The first survey is about the council’s borough-wide strategy for increasing the number of electric vehicle charging points.
The second survey is about existing EV owners’ charging habits
Both surveys will close on 6 January 2025.
Council leader, Peter Mason, said, “As we work to achieve net zero in carbon emissions by 2030, we are rapidly expanding the number of accessible charging points across the borough to make it easier for residents to charge their electric vehicles. By having fewer petrol or diesel vehicles on our roads, we will have cleaner air and fewer harmful emissions.
“Our Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy sets out our plans to meet increasing demand for charging points as people switch to electric vehicles. But it’s vital that local people have their say on our plans, which is why we encourage everyone to contribute their views on the consultation.”
Councillor Paul Driscoll, the council’s cabinet member for climate action, said “Tackling climate change requires bold and effective actions, whilst we encourage people to choose active travel such as walking, cycling or using public transport, easy access to electric vehicle charging is an important part of the puzzle.”
