Good results in general but Chiswick School lags behind
The Government have published new tables showing the 'value added' by local schools. The general performance of local schools in the latest figures has been very good with Hounslow Borough ranking as 12th highest performing borough in the country for adding value between Key Stage 3 (year 9) and 4 (year 11).
Gumley House came out as the top 'value adder' between Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 closely followed by Brentford School for Girls.
At the other end of the scale Chiswick School has the lowest value added in the borough between Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 and the second lowest between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4. Chiswick School has the highest number of pupils in the borough failing to reach level 1 at Key Stage 4 i.e. passing at least 5 GCSEs. 14% of the year group did not reach this level and 6% are leaving with no qualifications at all.
Cllr Ruth Cadbury, Executive Member and Lifelong Learning, said, We are immensely proud of the achievements our schools are making, and these tables help show the excellent progress made in recent years. The success of our schools is down to the hard work of everyone involved in education in Hounslow students, teachers, classroom assistants, heads, parents, and officers here in the council. Thanks to all their efforts, we are helping every child in the borough achieve the start in life they deserve.
The KS3 to KS4 Value Added Measure assesses the performance of individual pupils between year nine and year 11 by looking at test scores to see how much they have improved compared to pupils with similar KS3 test results. This provides a better indication of the effectiveness of a child's education than looking solely at raw test scores as it measures the progress made.
