Blue Chip companies join partnership working together to reduce crime
A partnership between local business, the police and council is working to reduce crime locally. The Hammersmith & Fulham Partnership Against Crime (HAFPAC) is an independent charity set up to help the police and council prevent crime in the borough.
The idea is simple, local business club together to fund initiatives that support crime reduction in the borough.
Working with the police and h&f council HAFPAC has launched a range of projects including: an extensive CCTV scheme in Hammersmith; mentoring projects for 10-18 year olds; a project to fit locks and bolts free of charge to the homes of elderly residents and a programme to target young offenders.
Blue chip companies like Barclays Bank, BBC, EMI, Haymarket Publishing, L'Oreal and many others are all involved.
Philip Goodman from Haymarket Publishing says, "As a large employer in this area we accept that we have a responsibility to the local community. We have a similar responsibility to our staff to help ensure that they can come to work in a secure and pleasant environment and that's why we support HAFPAC."
Cllr Greg Smith cabinet member for crime & antisocial behaviour says the council will work with HAFPAC and the police to cut crime across the borough.
Cllr Smith says, "Our number one priority is to crack down on crime and I welcome the support local businesses provide through HAFPAC in helping us to achieve that goal. Criminals in H&F need to hear the message loud and clear that we are not a soft touch and that we will be unrelenting in our tough approach."
