Double Boost for Live Music in the Area
The Drapers Arms and Hanwell Town Football club hosting emerging local bands
The Drapers Arms will be hosting bands on Saturday nights
The reputation of Hanwell and Ealing as a nurturing ground for musical talent and a hot spot for live music looks set to continue with the launch of two new venues.
The organisers of the Hanwell Hootie have teamed up with Hanwell Town Football club to launch host young and emerging bands from across West London at Geordies Bar.
The acts have all featured in this year’s Hootie and it is hoped that the event, which takes place on 19 November will kick start more live music in the area.
Bands performing include BritPop/Post-Punk/Rock&Roll trio The Molotovs whose explosive performances leave nothing in the dressing room. Cool, iconic covers from the 60's to present day are combined with originals delivered with punch. Songwriter and guitarist Mathew swaggers on stage with antics reminiscent of Wilko-meets-Weller whilst bassist Issey Carts bops and struts in pure rock-chick style. Name-checked by Billie Joe Armstrong in front of 90,000 this year and hailed in glowing terms by Pete Doherty as when they supported The Libertines last year, The Molotovs are arguably the most hardworking teenage band currently on the scene.
Sterling Press are an alternative four-piece from Hanwell, now based in Liverpool. Having played under many different guise, the band is comprised of Ed Higgins (guitar, vocals), Greg Smith (guitar, vocals), Marlon Reynier (bass, vocals) and Lucien Ismael (drums). Built on the foundations of a classic rock band, Sterling Press draw on other influences from punk, ska and techno music, and produce horn-fuelled indie classics that you won’t forget in a hurry.

Deuxes are an indie soul duo of multi-instrumentalist sisters from North West London. The pair are described as having a sound of their own, featuring a mixture of bold basslines and soulful harmonies with influences from Motown to modern rock.

The Drapers Arm’s in central Ealing is also launching a Saturday night of new and original live acts on 12 November.
Usually the preserve of covers bands and DJ sets, one Saturday night a month will see Ealing Live take over the pub to showcase new and original music artists.
Curated and hosted by local psychedelic rock’n’soul band Near Death Experience (NDX), who will act as the house band, Ealing Live promises some of the best breaking music artists in London.
Confirmed to play alongside NDX on 12 November is self-confessed “jazzy witch with a touch of soul” Sonia Elisheva, who’s performing her sassy groove pop over the past few months, most notably at The Hanwell Cavern.
“Sonia’s a phenomenon,” said NDX singer and guitarist Ian ‘Lightning’ Whiteling. “She has everything: fantastic look, great voice, excellent songs and is backed by a super cool band, featuring a double saxophone attack! Her live performances are not to be missed.”
NDX, meanwhile, will be playing their brand of funky soulful psychedelic rock, after a busy year which has seen the band release three singles, each enthusiastically received by the indie music blogger and radio station communities, and included two appearances at Glastonbury.
“Launching Ealing Live and bringing brilliant new and original music to one of central Ealing’s best pubs on a Saturday night is a triumph,” said Whiteling. “It’s like going back to the 60s and 70s where amazing emerging live artists would play down your local. You’ll struggle to find a show like this anywhere in London and we can’t wait to kick the first event off.”
Ealing Live gets the party started at 8pm on Saturday 12 November at The Draper Arms on Ealing High Street, just a short walk from Ealing Broadway Station, with artists playing until midnight, and entry is free. NDX and Sonia Elisheva will play alongside another great original act soon to be confirmed.
