An application (P/2024/1329) has been submitted by Mint Velvet to rebrand the former Costa café next door and reopen it as a retail unit.

The new signage will be placed across 244 and 246 Chiswick High Road which are separated by the passageway through to Chiswick Back Common.

The proposed works include the removal of Costa’s 3D cutout signage, trough light, and projecting signage from the timber fascia which will be made good and repainted.

Mint Velvet is a chain of womenswear boutiques with branches across the UK and Ireland, as well as concessions in John Lewis, House of Fraser and Fenwick. It was founded in 2009 by Liz Houghton, Jane Rawlings, Lisa Agar-Rea and Stuart Grant with the aim of providing ‘relaxed glamour’.

Costa moved out of the unit in February as part of a nationwide reorganisation of its network. The rent on the unit was not advertised after Costa’s departure but it was being offered for £120,000 plus VAT per annum back in 2018. The rates payable on the unit are £49,476 per annum including the space on the first floor. The ground floor unit is 1,876 sq ft.

A separate application (P/2024/1292) has been made for the replacement of the existing flat roof to the rear of the property with associated maintenance works.
