Management silent after 'temporary' closure a week ago

Members of the Maggie & Rose Club House in Chiswick are unclear about the venue’s future after not receiving any updates from the management for over a week.
They were informed by email last Monday evening (22 January) that the club house, which is near the entrance to Sainsbury’s, was ‘temporarily’ closing due to ‘staffing and operational challenges’.
The email continued, “Our members’ safety and experience are our topmost priority. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. The nursery continues to operate as usual.”
The club house was shut the following morning, and despite repeated requests for updates, the members who pay monthly membership fees starting at £140, have not been given any further information. Some members are believed to have paid annually in advance for their membership.
In 2022, the three London nurseries run by Maggie & Rose including the one in Chiswick were sold to Grandir UK, the owner of the Kiddi Caru Day Nurseries.
Maggie and Rose Ltd, which has its registered office at 2b Belmont Road, (W4 5UH) was due to submit its latest set of accounts last August.
It was subject to a compulsory strike off order by Companies House in October of last year and the year before but in both cases this was suspended. An insolvency expert says a strike off order can be cancelled if missing documentation is submitted to Companies House or the company can demonstrate it is still trading.
Shortly after the strike off notice was published, existing shareholder loans and accrued interest were converted into shares.
On 7 November last year, Chinese national Lin Caihe was appointed as a director but then resigned on 18 January 2024.
This leaves the company with two directors, Huaqin Jin from Hong King and Meng Ooi Kwan from Malaysia.
The group, which was founded in 2006, also has clubs in Kensington, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Maggie and Rose opened in Chiswick in 2012 and provides an indoor and outdoor play space for smaller children as well as a family restaurant. Family-friendly events were regularly staged for members.
The club contains a creative art studio ready, a cooking school, a two storey Helter Skelter, cinema room and children’s reading library as well as a roof terrace.
The 12,500 sq ft venue in Chiswick was designed by Lou Davies of Box 9, who had previously worked on Gail’s Bakery, Riding House Café and the Soho House Group.
