Thames Tradesmen's took on company building Dukes Meadows footbridge
The cheque being presented
The Hogarth Charitable Trust has received vital funding after more than £3,000 was raised by a charity rowing race.
A crew from participants in the Thames Tradesmen’s Rowing Club (TTRC) Learn to Row course took on staff from Knights Brown, the company appointed by London Borough of Hounslow for the design and construction of the new Dukes Meadows footbridge.
In all £3,252.50 has been donated to the Hogarth Charitable Trust in Chiswick, which provides opportunities and support for local young people through its independent Hogarth Youth Centre.
Knights Brown hosted an event at their site offices close to the former Chiswick Boat House on Wednesday 9 March, attended by the trust, the rowing club and London Borough of Hounslow, including Councillor Todd, Sabina Martin (Hounslow Borough Council), Fred Lucas (Head of the Hogarth Charitable Trust) Dani Karas, Raj Parkash, Denny Anthony and Jonathan Walker (Hogarth charity members), Nigel Brophy (chairman of TTRC), Peter Robinson and Ladies Captain Isabelle Meron (TTRC) and Sean Hebden (Divisional Director, Knights Brown), Meen Gurung (Project Manager, Knights Brown) and Jim Devine (Community Engagement Lead, Knights Brown).
In receiving a cheque for the proceeds, Fred Lucas thanked Knights Brown, saying the funds would be invaluable in helping them support young people after the charity’s funding had been badly affected by the pandemic.
Nigel Brophy, Chairman of TTRC, mentioned what a good neighbour Knights Brown had been, including their assistance in clearing up after a fly-tipping incident at the club. He said, “I knew from meeting Meen and Jim that it would be a good relationship. Knights Brown for us, is like having good neighbours, good neighbours that help.”
Out of this relationship, the idea to organise a charity boat race was born, which resulted in TTRC providing training at their facilities supported by local coaches, Jackie Eastlands, Peter Robinson and Nigel Brophy, all of whom gave their time freely to the cause.
Knights Brown’s four-strong team comprised project manager Meen Gurung, senior engineer Enda McEvoy, multi-skilled groundworker Richard Glennon and year in industry engineer Sam Rai.
The next TTRC Learn to Row course starts in the spring. For more information visit the club's web site.
