Local Youth Centre Benefits from Charity Boat Race

The Hogarth Charitable Trust, which runs a youth centre in Chiswick, has been boosted by a £3,000 donation raised through a boat race.
The charity, which helps to provide opportunities and support for local young people, was the beneficiary of an event that took place last month in which Thames Tradesmen’s Rowing Club (TTRC) took on a crew from Knights Brown, the company appointed by LBH to build the new pedestrian footbridge at Dukes Meadows.
Both crews were made up of novice rowers. The Thames Tradesmen’s crew recently completed the club’s six-week Learn to Row course and Thames Tradesmen’s coaches taught the Knights Brown crew over a similar period.
Knights Brown won the gruelling race in terrible weather conditions – strong wind against the tide with heavy rain and hailstones.

Fred Lucas, Chair of the Hogarth Charitable Trust said, “Thank you all at Knights Brown and Thames Tradesmen’s so very much and a special thank you to everyone who made a donation. The money raised will make a real difference to our funding for PROJECT 2022 – next year’s youth programme”.
Sabina Martin, LBH Project Manager for the footbridge and boathouse redevelopment, said, “A huge thank you to the TTRC Coaches for giving up their time to train the contractor, making the arrangements for the boat race and providing refreshments afterwards. Raising over £3,000 will go a long way to help Hogarth Youth Centre valuable support to local young people.”
Nigel Brophy, Chairman of Thames Tradesmen’s Rowing Club said, “It was great to see this boat race take place. Thank you to Jim Devine of Knights Brown who came up with the idea and made it happen, to the crews and coxes, to the supporters who braved the weather and to everyone who so generously donated to this fantastic cause.”
