The branch of KFC on Chiswick High Road has closed its doors, with its final day of trading last Sunday (12 April).

A notice displayed in the restaurant window informed customers that the site would be shutting permanently, thanking the local community for its support and directing diners to nearby branches in Acton and Hammersmith.

The local outlet at number 88 is believed to have been run as a franchise rather than directly by KFC and has been operating at the local since the nineties.

Although no direct link has been confirmed, the closure follows a turbulent period for the restaurant, which was handed a zero-star food hygiene rating after an inspection in December 2025.

A zero rating – the lowest possible under the Food Standards Agency system – indicates that urgent improvement is required.

At the time, inspectors identified concerns including poor hygienic food handling and issues with the cleanliness and condition of the premises.

Staff reportedly told customers that a flood at the site had contributed to the problems around the time of the inspection.

However, the business subsequently underwent a reinspection and significantly improved its standards. A follow-up inspection on 5 February found conditions to be “good” across key categories including food handling and cleanliness, resulting in a top five-star hygiene rating.

In its farewell message, the Chiswick team wrote, “While we’re sad to say goodbye, you can continue enjoying your favourite meals at our nearby locations… It has been our pleasure to serve the Chiswick community.”

The closure leaves a vacant unit on a prominent stretch of Chiswick High Road, with no announcement yet on a future tenant.

KFC has been approached for comment.
