Franco Manca at 144 Chiswick High Road

Franco Manca’s Chiswick restaurant is reportedly among 16 branches set to close as the sourdough‑pizza chain undergoes a major restructuring process affecting sites across London and the UK.
Parent company Fulham Shore, which operates around 70 Franco Manca restaurants, has entered a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) as part of a plan to stabilise the business. The move will see 16 sites shut and could lead to the loss of around 225 jobs nationwide.
Although an official list has not been published, the hospitality industry site Propel has named the Chiswick branch at 144 Chiswick High Road among those due to close. No date has yet been confirmed. The restaurant opened in 2009, becoming one of the early west London outposts of the Brixton‑born brand. Its next-door neighbour, The Silver Birch, announced its own closure earlier this year.
Fulham Shore’s chief executive Marcel Khan said the decision reflected the mounting pressures on the hospitality sector, citing high taxes and the lack of business‑rate relief for restaurants.
“Over the last two years under our current management, we have been making strong progress against several key performance indicators, with productivity, customer satisfaction, happiness ratings, loyalty and frequency improving significantly,” he said.
“However, even restaurant businesses that are doing all the right things from a customer and operational perspective are not immune to widely publicised pressures impacting the hospitality industry.”
The CVA follows warnings from Toridoll Holdings, the Japanese company that acquired Fulham Shore in 2023, that closures were being considered across its UK operations. Fulham Shore has been working with restructuring specialists Alvarez & Marsal since February to review its strategic options.
While the company initially explored selling both Franco Manca and its sister brand The Real Greek, Toridoll has opted to continue supporting Franco Manca through the CVA and beyond. The future of The Real Greek remains under review.
Founded in Brixton Market in 2008, Franco Manca expanded rapidly on the strength of its affordable sourdough pizzas and neighbourhood‑focused model.
