The Duke of Sussex pub on South Parade has reopened to customers following a substantial six-figure refurbishment that has refreshed the Grade II-listed building while aiming to retain much of its Victorian character.
The Chiswick pub, which dates back to the 1840s and was originally named after Prince Augustus Frederick, has undergone a full interior and exterior update after several months of closure.
The renovation includes a new colour scheme, updated lighting, refurbished toilets and redesigned bar and dining areas intended to create clearer zones between drinking and dining spaces. Outside, the beer garden has been repaved and fitted with new planters and furniture, and the frontage has been updated with new signage and additional seating.
A new logo has also been introduced, featuring a stylised depiction of the Sussex Martlet — a mythical bird associated with the county — with the duke shown riding it. The design is intended to reference the pub’s heritage while giving it a more contemporary visual identity.
Alongside the refurbishment, the pub has launched new food and drink menus. The kitchen is offering a mix of seasonal dishes and a selection of “Duke’s Favourites”, which draw on the Spanish-influenced menu previously associated with the venue. The drinks list includes new cocktails, non-alcoholic options, premium lagers and a revised wine list.
General manager Stefana-Loredana Cazacu said the aim of the refurbishment was to modernise the space without losing its traditional feel. She described the Duke of Sussex as a longstanding social hub for the area and said the team hoped the updated interior and garden would appeal to both regulars and new visitors.
The pub has also scheduled a series of events for the summer, including a relaunch party on 18 June, a World Cup viewing event on 27 June and two live-music sessions in July and August. Regular weekly events such as Friday drinks offers, live music and Sunday quizzes are set to continue.
Further details, including opening hours and booking information, are available on the Duke of Sussex website.
