W4 Youth has appointed Southfield ward councillor Gary Malcolm as one of its trustees.

The leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Ealing Councillor has supported the charity since it was set up in 2010 and helped it gain funds through the Southfield Ward Forum.

W4 Youth has ambitious plans for a new youth and community centre on Southfield Recreation Ground which it is currently seeking funding for in partnership with Ealing Council. This will allow it to expand its support for sporting and recreational activities across Chiswick for teenagers.

Sally Chacatté, W4 Youth Founder and Chair, said, “We are delighted to welcome Gary Malcolm to our Board of Trustees at a time when we are re-launching our youth provision for 11–19-year-olds in our new temporary home in Southfield Recreation Ground as well as raising funds to build a new youth and community centre for the whole community to enjoy. Gary’s experience as a local ward councillor, known by so many in the local community, coupled with the expertise and commitment of our current Trustees puts us in an exciting new phase for W4 Youth.”

Cllr Malcolm said, “It is an honour and a privilege to be asked to be a Trustee of W4 Youth. I have respected Sally and the huge amount of time that her and many volunteers have spent giving local teens a chance to shine playing sport or taking part in other activities. I am passionate to do my best to help W4 Youth establish a permanent Youth & Community Centre on Southfield Recreation Ground.”

W4 Youth is planning two events in the future to help raise awareness of its efforts. On 11 March there will be Rocks Lane Padel Tennis Tournament at 6.00pm in aid of W4 Youth and on 16th April the W4 Youth dance troupe will be performing at the Chiswick Cheese Market from 9am to 3.30pm.
