Two Funky New Cafes Voted Top Chiswick Favourites

Love London awards saw newcomers beat off more established venues in W4

Two coffee shops which offer organic specialist coffee and funky interiors have proved to be favourites with Chiswickians, who voted two of the area's newest venues as winners in the latest Time Out poll.

Coffee Traveller, an eclectic neighbourhood coffee shop in Thames Road, at Strand on the Green, was voted the area's favourite cafe in Time Out’s second annual Love London Awards. Owner Neil Vanstone said they were completely surprised and thanked customers for voting, saying the win was " like a dream". The cafe only opened twelve weeks ago.

Chief Coffee which opened in June in Turnham Green Terrace, with a basement pinball lounge, was runner-up. Shortlisted were Cafe Dessert and Crepe Parisienne.

The awards are given to cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops across the city, voted as most popular in their area by local residents.

The best local restaurant, according to voters, was Charlottes, in Turnham Green Terrace. Michelin-starred La Trompette was in the shortlist along with Annie's, Canta Napoli, Chiswick House Cafe and Fouberts. Smokehouse, and Copper Cow were also shortlisted.

The Old Cinema won the Best Local Shop award, followed as runner-up by the Hack & Veldt deli. Long-established shops Covent Garden Fish and Fara, both based in Turnham Green, were shortlisted.

In the Bars & Pubs category, the winner was the Swan pub, set in a quiet area close to Acton Green. The City Barge was runner-up. Others shortlisted in that category include the Duke of Sussex, Fuller's Brewery, the Old Packhorse, the Roebuck, the Italian Job and the Lamb.

In the Culture section, the winner was Chiswick House, with The Tabard Theatre as runner-up.

Since the awards launched in September, nearly 16,000 nominations were received for venues across the capital. This was followed by close to 75,000 votes, revealing the most-loved spots in each category – cafés, restaurants, shops, local culture and pubs – in every area of London.

The five places that received the most votes overall did not include Chiswick venues but were:

Restaurant - Cay Tre in Dean St, Soho.

Cafe - Love and Scandal, Marsh Street, behind Waterloo station

Shop - Bow Wow, boutique selling dog accessories and clothing, West End

Pub - The Kenton, Hackney

Cultural Venue - Arthouse, Crouch End
