'Sip While You Flip' At Chief Coffee

Improve your pinball skills in Chiswick's newest cafe

An innovative new cafe with a basement 'pinball lounge' has opened in Turnham Green Terrace. The management say the machines are there for "big kids as well as little kids", and say Chief Coffee is the first of its kind in Britain.

Chief Coffee is located in the mews off Turnham Green Terrace, in a former Isokon building (beside Snapdragon) and opened last Saturday selling speciality 'drop' coffee from Sweden and from speciality suppliers in London. Snacks on offer include Croudoughs (a mixture of a croissant and a doughnut) which is a current craze in the USA.

The cafe is owned by a local resident who is a pinball enthusiast himself. The website has a list of pinball machines, mostly of the Bally and William's design from the 1990s.

Coin-operated pinball machines have been in existence since the 1930s but became more sophisticated with the advent of microprocessors in the 1970s. The video game boom of the 1980s saw the demise of the machines but the introduction of more elaborate sound systems and displays recently have helped revive interest, particularly in America.

A spokesperson said that their intention was to be a neighbourhood cafe with "amazing" coffee and they are also dog-friendly.

The opening hours of the cafe are; Mon - Fri ; 8am -7pm

Sat 9am - 7pm

Sun 10am - 6pm
