Developer will also support plan to spread the event across London
Chiswick’s Super Saturday of Sport will go ahead this July as planned thanks to funding from Lend Lease.
The popular event had launched a crowdfunding site in desperation to keep the day going following the withdrawal of funding by Hounslow Council.

But it appears that the long-term future of Chiswick’s successful summer event, has been secured following a new partnership with developer, Lend Lease, the company behind the Empire House/Essex Place project opposite Turnham Green, where the sports event takes place.
The developer is supporting the July 16 event on Turnham Green this year and is backing Super
Saturday’s ambition to spread the events across London in 2017.
The partnership will see Lend Lease endlease create a chill-out lounge at each event to promote mental health services in the borough and raise awareness of the issues surrounding mental illness. The lounge will feature inspirational speakers, free healthy mock-tails and massages alongside mindfulness workshops, tai chi, yoga and useful tips to keep a healthy active mind.
The event’s organiser, Kirsten Lonsdale said she was delighted with Super Saturday’s new supporter. “This is a brilliant partnership for Super Saturday of Sport. Lend Lease is not only ensuring the event thrives this year but the company also believes in my vision to create free sports events in other boroughs. What impressed me most about Lend Lease is their commitment to making Super Saturday even better by creating a whole new area to focus on mental health.”

Lend Lease community development manager, Natasha Hera says “Super Saturday is an
incredible initiative that ensures health and wellbeing remain a priority for all people, of all ages
across the borough – a focus that truly resonates with Lendlease’s core business values. We
are thrilled to be working in partnership with Kirsten to champion this important cause and help
deliver an event that offers everyone access to sporting and mental health facilities.”
The Chiswick branch of the Swedish bank, Handelsbanken have joined Sworn & Co as a sponsor. The money from the crowdfunding appeal will go towards paying for a climbing wall for the event.

Hounslow Council, which has provided funding for the free community day on Turnham Green for the last two years will not be sponsoring the event this year and will redirect the funds towards a similar event in Feltham in June.
Super Saturday of Sport was a finalist in the 2015 national Pride of Sport awards for its contribution to the community. It began as a small children’s event in 2013 in Chiswick to inspire young people to find their sporting passion and expanded to include adult activities in 2014.
