A new stage adaptation of Arthur McBain’s children’s book In the Dead of Night will be performed at the Theatre at the Tabard in Chiswick from 30 to 31 October, offering a family-friendly theatrical experience during the Halloween season. The production is presented by Faceplant Theatre, a company known for its playful, interactive storytelling aimed at younger audiences.

The show follows Lily, a young girl who is afraid of the dark and the mysterious sounds that echo through her home on a stormy night. As the story unfolds, Lily must confront her fears and navigate a world of imagined ghouls and shadowy noises. The original book, written in verse, has been praised for its blend of humour and suspense, and is part of Waterstones’ core children’s range. It has also been published internationally in Australia, Korea, and Turkey.

Arthur McBain, the author, is a British actor and writer whose work spans stage, screen, and literature. A graduate of the Oxford School of Drama, McBain has appeared in productions with the Royal Shakespeare Company and National Theatre of Scotland, and on television in The Trouble with Maggie Cole and Friday On My Mind. His second children’s book, Night of the Living Pasta, was released earlier this year.

Faceplant Theatre, founded in 2015, specialises in devising original theatre for children and families. Their productions often feature live music, physical comedy, and audience interaction. Past shows include One Duck Down, which won the Family Show of the Year Award at VAULT Festival, and The Tale of the Cockatrice, which toured nationally.

The performance runs for one hour without an interval, and is suitable for children aged 3 and up. Tickets are priced at £15 for general admission and £10 for concessions.
