Chiswick is spoilt for choice with places to watch the Great River Race on Saturday 20 September. Not only will

Chiswick Pier will once again serve as a prime viewing spot but for those nearer Kew Bridge, the Strand on the Green Association is also holding a street party.

Based at the Kew Bridge end of Strand on the Green from 12 noon to 4pm, there will be live music at the Steam Packet pub and free games stalls as well as the Great River Race itself. Bring a picnic or enjoy some food at the Bell and Crown or the Steam Packet

Part of the Totally Thames Festival, the race features traditional-style boats—each with at least four oars or paddles, a cox, and a passenger—and attracts a wide range of participants, from elite athletes to teams in fancy dress raising money for charity. Crews represent rowing clubs, schools, livery companies, emergency services, and community groups.

More than 330 crews from across the globe take to the Thames in a 21-mile challenge from London Docklands to Ham.
