Historic new race part of new Chiswick Pier Trust talks
Chiswick Pier Trust has had a jam-packed 2014 and looks forward to a full programme of events for spring 2015.
One of the highlights of this year is expected to be a talk by Christine Wilson, the Head Coach of the Oxford Women’s crew. For the first time since the men's racing rivalry began in 1829, the Oxford Women will race Cambridge from Putney to Mortlake.
Tuesday 17th February, 7.30pm The History of the Thames in West London – an illustrated talk by the former senior curator at the Museum of London, Jon Cotton. Come and find out about the many objects found locally on the Thames foreshore that give insights into our past. Discover who made and used the Battersea shield, and who might have drunk out of the Kew tankard and learn how and where they were discovered.
Tuesday 3rd March, 7,30pm Training for the 2015 Women’s Boat Race on the Thames Championship Course - a talk by Christine Wilson, the Head Coach of the Oxford Women’s crew. The Women's Boat Race will make its historic move to the Tideway in 2015. For the first time since the men's racing rivalry began in 1829, the Oxford Women will race Cambridge from Putney to Mortlake. Find out how they are preparing and what are the particular challenges of our stretch of the river from their head coach Christine Wilson. Christine has an extensive international coaching career spanning Olympic, University and School rowing. She was formerly assistant coach to the U.S. Women’s Olympic Team, Head Coach of women’s rowing at Yale and Cornell and was the first woman to coach men at a major American university programme. The overall record of the Women's Boat Race is Cambridge 40, Oxford 29, but since Oxford's victory in 2000, the Dark Blues have won eleven of the last fourteen races.

Friday 10th April 12-2 pm CPT/TET River Dipping. £3 adults, £1 children. Free to Chiswick Pier Trust members.
Saturday 11th April 2015 4.50pm & 5.50pm. The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Races. Come and cheer on the teams, from one of the best vantage points on the Championship Course, which this year will include women crew for the first time in London,. The Pier House will be open all afternoon serving refreshments.
Tuesday 21st April 7.30pm A talk on the history and celebration of swimmers’ relationship with the River Thames. Caitlin Davies, author of Downstream tells the story of all those who have been drawn to its waters, from kings and famous poets, to Victorian endurance swimmers and modern day triathletes.
For evening talks, the doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets are free to members of the Chiswick Pier Trust or £3.
