Mayor gives assurance of a Piccadilly Line public consultation
Hopes for an improved local tube service have received a boost with the news that Boris Johnson appears to have made a commitment to hold a consultation on the issue of the Piccadilly line service at Turnham Green.
Caroline Pidgeon, Liberal Democrat Greater London Assembly Leader, has received notification from the Mayor of London’s office that there will be a public consultation on the matter in response to a question she submitted.
She asked, "Further to my previous questions supporting Piccadilly Line trains stopping at Turnham Green throughout the day, will you review TfL's position on the hours that tubes stop, to improve the service for local residents around Turnham Green? When can we expect the outcome of any review?"
She received the following response from the Mayor, "Although as you know there are a number of difficulties associated with a
proposal to change the times at which Piccadilly line trains stop at Turnham Green, I have asked TfL to look into the matter further, which should include consultation with passengers, as soon as is practicable."
This is the first time a Mayor of London has conceded the need for a consultation on the matter. No specific time-table has been given.
Southfield Councillor Gary Malcolm, said: “Caroline Pidgeon and the Liberal Democrats in Chiswick have been active for many years to get the Mayor of London’s office to hold a public consultation on this with passengers. Residents deserve Piccadilly Line tubes to stop at Turnham Green as there are so many passengers who have to wait so long to get to and from Central London.”
In February local MP Mary Macleod raised the issue of Turnham Green station with Boris Johnson during a visit to Chiswick, prompting him to agree to take a fresh look at the matter.
