Mary Gets Boris On Board Over Turnham Green?

Mayor talks to TfL about taking another look at Piccadilly Line stopping

The Mayor for London, Boris Johnson has promised local MP Mary Macleod that he will take a fresh look at the issue of the Piccadilly Line stopping at Turnham Green underground station.

The MP for Brentford and Isleworth has been campaigning for some time on the matter, and said today (Tuesday, 28th February) that she had persuaded the Mayor to discuss the matter with Transport for London (TfL) on his recent visit to Chiswick Community School.

TfL have said in the past that the move is not possible due to signalling issues, but Mary Macleod has urged them to continue to fully explore the issue on the basis that it would have a very positive impact locally.

Mary commented, “Turnham Green Station is the busiest station on the Piccadilly Line between Hammersmith and Heathrow, however it is currently only serviced by the Piccadilly line very late at night or very early in the morning.”

Currently the station is served by the District Line and the Piccadilly Line runs a fast train service throughout the day, with trains stopping at the station prior to 6:50 am and after 10:30pm.

Mary added, “I understand that it is important to have a fast service from West London to Heathrow, however when looking at the figures I really feel that Turnham Green is a special case.

“ Turnham Green is seeing increasing demands from both commuters and shoppers, it is time to take a fresh look at the issue and I am happy that the Mayor has promised to do so. Much has changed since this current policy was adopted in 1963, I think it is about time we have a timetable that reflects the Turnham Green of today.”
