Every player in the team scored to deliver table topping performance

The players are talked through tactics at a training session

Boys from Years 5 and 6 at Belmont Primary School have made a very successful start to the term.

They have won the Hounslow Borough football title at a competition that was held earlier this month at Springwell School in Heston.

It was the first competitive fixture for the boys who have been taking part in lunchtime coaching sessions to prepare. The training was led by Mr Driscoll, a highly qualified UEFA coach with Mr Powell for coordinating the matches.

As if the table topping performance wasn’t enough, every player in the team managed to score at least one goal across the matches.

Many of the before and after school clubs focus on competitive sport with children training in netball, tag rugby, tennis, cross-country running and athletics as well as football. The school competes against other local primary schools and teams frequently progress beyond the local heats to the borough finals or London Youth Games.

The school works in partnership with Sport Impact, and through this is a member of the Youth Sport Trust. It has been awarded the School Games Kitemark (launched in 2012) in recognition of it provision for Sport and PE.

Sport Impact provides the school with expertise in this area, including coaches to deliver extra-curricular activities. It also trains older children to act as Young Sports Leaders, encouraging other children into active play at lunchtime.
