Burst water main may mean traffic and transport problems

A burst water main on Chiswick High Road this Sunday morning (10 July) has resulted in a spectacular fountain rising to over 40 feet.

The rupture has occurred near Gunnersbury station where the road crosses over the railway tracks and the spray is crossing onto the lines. This has resulted in the suspension of District Line services between Turnham Green and Richmond. London Overground services at the station were already due to be suspended due to engineering works.

It is thought likely that high temperatures recently have caused the main to burst.

The latest information is that Chiswick High Road remains open with minor delays at the site although this was for early in the morning when traffic levels are very light.

There is no update yet from Thames Water and the impact on water supplies in the area is not known with as yet nobody reporting any loss of pressure.
