Chiswick foursome take on Three Peak Challenge for charity
Four intrepid members of the congregation at St Paul’s Grove Park are attempting the Three Peaks Challenge over the weekend of 27 and 28th May. This involves climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon (respectively the highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales) within just 24 hours.
Jeff Bennett, Nick Dunlop and John Theakston are the climbers, with Nick Ridge managing the logistics and doing all the driving. The plan is to start up Ben Nevis at around 5pm and be down by nightfall; drive through the night to the Lake District for a dawn start up Scafell Pike; and be in Snowdonia by lunchtime for the final assault on Snowdon.
Their aim is to raise substantial funds through sponsorship to be split equally between the Micro Loan Foundation (www.microloanfoundation.org.uk) and St Paul’s Grove Park (www.stpaulsgrovepark.com ). The Church has just has extensive, and expensive, repairs to the outside fabric of the building.
John Theakston said “It’s a real pleasure to support two such worthwhile local causes, although it may not feel like that when we are two peaks down and one to go. We are hoping to call St Paul’s as the Sunday service is ending to give everyone a progress report ‘live’ from Snowdon.”
Training is underway and all three climbers have already made it as far as the Bull’s Head …. well, you’ve got to start somewhere!
All contributions and sponsorship would be very much appreciated. You can give online at http://www.justgiving.com/NJJN, or send a donation, payable to St Paul’s Grove Park PCC directly to 3 Peaks Challenge, c/o John Theakston, 30 Grove Park Gardens, Chiswick, London W4 3RZ.
