Mountainous challenge for gym members

Hogarth Health Club launches 40K Expedition

A local health club is issuing a challenge to its members - climb 40,000 feet to raise funds for charity. The 40K expedition is its first ever international mountaineering event.

With the primary objective of climbing the highest peaks in Britain, Western Europe and Africa – in total some 40,000 feet above sea level - the second challenge is to raise £1 sponsorship for each foot climbed in aid of The MicroLoan Foundation, which helps some of Africa’s poorest people set up small businesses in order to support their families. 2005 is officially the year of Africa. Teams of up to four people may compete and expedition must be completed by 31 January 2006.

You don’t need to be super-fit or experienced, just motivated and reasonably fit; the Club will provide you with a tailored training programme to help you get there. It will take a minimum of three weeks of your time and around £1,500 of your own money to meet your costs. And of course you must be enthusiastic enough about the expedition to charm your colleagues, friends, family and business contacts into sponsoring you to complete it!

Two of the charity’s Trustees who have themselves completed the challenge will present their experience of a lifetime to members at a special launch party at the Hogarth Club on Monday 21st February 2005 at 7.30 pm. One says: “Our team set out to enjoy the experience of dragging ourselves up at least two serious mountains before senile dementia struck. We had fantastic fun, became life-long friends and exceeded the £40,000 fundraising target by 50%.”
