A retired police man who was based with CID at Chiswick police station has died from a head injury with some of his neighbours blaming local yobs.

After his retirement last year, Adrian Daniels had moved to Berkshire, where he had become popular with his neighbours for his community spirit. One neighbour told a local newspaper that despite no longer being on the force he had not stop policing and was often telling local youths who were smoking dope in alleys around the area in which he lived to move on.

There were unconfirmed reports of an altercation in the street on the evening of July 17th and some time later in the early hours of the following morning Mr. Daniels was found unconscious with serious head injuries just a few yards from his home. He was taken to a local hospital where he died later that day. Police say further medical tests are necessary before the precise cause of death can be determined.

Detective Inspector Andy Rose said, "Adrian was a well-liked and respected officer who was dedicated to the job. All those who worked with him were shocked and saddened to hear of his death."

Originally from Wales, MR. Daniels was nicknamed 'Taff' at the local station. He had a long and eventful career and was involved in the police operation at the 1975 Balcombe Street siege and as well as the investigation into the IRA bombing of a Wimpy bar in 1981. He leaves behind his ex-wife Jill and 21 year old son, Tom.
