A 30-year-old nurse has described the moment her electric bike was stolen outside the Co-op by Chiswick Railway Station on Friday (14 August).

Kelly Regan, who works with the disabled, had stopped briefly to buy a bottle of water when she saw a man taking her navy Momentum e-bike, which retails for more than £1,000.

Ms Regan said she pleaded with the thief not to take the bike, shouting after him as he began to ride away. “I screamed: ‘Please don’t, please don’t,’ and he smiled at me, which was weird,”. She gave chase and her screams attracted the attention of staff from nearby businesses who came to assist.

A father and son who were passing by witnessed the theft gave chase in their Jeep, following the man along Burlington Lane as he cycled on the pavement beside the wall of Chiswick House Gardens.

Footage they took of the incident shows the man attempting to shield his face. He is described as over six feet tall and was wearing flip-flops on what was one of the hottest days of the summer.

The bike has not been recovered. An AirTag hidden on the frame was later found discarded on Spencer Road.

This is the second time Ms Regan has had an electric bike stolen in Chiswick. Last June, a similar model was taken from Chiswick High Road. It was protected by what Ms Regan described as a gold standard lock but it took the thieves less than two minutes to break it. She eventually located the AirTag from that bike in a bin on Churchfield Road in Acton. She is now considering buying a cheaper bike for her commute.

The Met Police said it is investigating the theft and officers have reviewed CCTV from the Co-op. No arrests have been made.
