Chiswick police have secured custodial sentences against two prolific offenders who have repeatedly targeted local shops and residents, as part of a wider crackdown on crime across the area.

Neighbourhood officers confirmed that Michael Rich, a well‑known repeat offender in Chiswick, has been jailed for 12 weeks after breaching the terms of his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). Rich has been the subject of numerous complaints from residents over recent years, and police say the sentence reflects ongoing efforts to curb persistent offending.

Meanwhile, Kayleigh Mitchell, described by officers as a “prolific shoplifter” in Chiswick, has been sentenced to 16 weeks in custody for shoplifting and breaching her own CBO. Police obtained the order last year in response to a pattern of repeated thefts from local businesses.

Sgt O’Donnell, who leads the Chiswick Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT), said the sentences were the result of sustained work to protect local shops and residents. “Through January we have been working hard to reduce offending,” he said, noting that proactive patrols have already contributed to a fall in vehicle crime.

He also highlighted a separate burglary investigation in which four men stole more than £3,000 worth of cigarettes from the Co‑op on Chiswick High Road. CCTV enquiries led by PC Storey identified all four suspects. Working with officers from Hillingdon and Ealing, police arrested three of the men in Southall. All three were charged, remanded and sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty the next day. The fourth suspect remains wanted.

Police also confirmed that Ricky Newman, 30, from Hammersmith, has been issued with a wide‑ranging Criminal Behaviour Order after being linked to a series of car break‑ins through CCTV. Newman received community and rehabilitation orders and must pay compensation to victims, but the new CBO imposes strict conditions, including banning him from entering Chiswick unless attending pre‑booked appointments and prohibiting him from carrying high‑value goods, unregistered bikes or electronic devices without proof of ownership.

Sgt O’Donnell said the team’s capacity will increase this month with the addition of a second sergeant, allowing for more proactive operations across Chiswick and the newly added Brentford East ward.
