The former head of the Chiswick Playhouse has received a suspended sentence after being convicted of sexual assault.
Wayne Glover-Stuart was appointed producer at the venue, which was a shortlived rebrand of the Tabard Theatre, in 2020 leaving two years later.
He was found guilty on four counts of offences against two victim this Wednesday (16 April) at the Inner Crown Court in London.
A two-year jail term was suspended and he is required to do 200 hours of unpaid work and undertake 30 days of rehabilitation activity. His name will be on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
Glover-Stuart was a graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and worked in theatre and TV including stints at Shakespeare’s Globe and writing scripts for Holby City.
He joined Chiswick Playhouse in March 2020 and said, “I am privileged and honoured to join a small but mighty theatre at such an exciting time as it embarks on a new chapter. I am excited to lead Chiswick Playhouse as a local theatre, producing outstanding work of all genres, and become the breeding ground for the next generation of top creatives.”
However, his arrival came just as the pandemic struck meaning that it was only when the theatre began to reopen the following year that he was able to stage any productions.
During his tenure, he led the "Recharged" festival, a series of productions aimed at revitalizing the theatre post-pandemic. The festival featured a variety of performances, including: Love London Love Culture, stand-up and music with artists including well-known local personality, Phyllis Logan star of Downton Abbey and Lovejoy; Andy Parsons from Mock the Week; and comedian and Loose Women regular, Judi Love
Despite his efforts, the Chiswick Playhouse closed permanently in 2022, citing financial pressures and operational difficulties. Glover-Stuart moved on to a similar role at Theatre Peckham. There is no suggestion that any of the offences occurred during his time in Chiswick.
The venue above the Tabard Pub has since been taken over by new management as Theatre at the Tabard.
