Grove Park Man Jailed for Sainsbury's Local Burglary

A 45-year-old man from Chiswick has been jailed for eight months for his part in a burglary of a supermarket in Henley-on-Thames.
Scott Webb of Grove Park Road was stopped by police along with 38-year-old Alex Barrow of Bracknell in a silver Ford Focus as they were travelling in in the early hours of Tuesday 13 February. The police originally stopped the car due to intelligence that the occupants were involved in drug dealing.
A search of the vehicle revealed a large amount of wine as well as some weapons. Further enquiries showed that the bottles had been taken from a Sainsbury’s Local store earlier that night.
The two men had been captured on CCTV breaking into a side door of the premises and damaging self service tills before taking goods valued at £103.75.
The pair admitted burglary and going equipped at their trial at Oxford Crown Court last month but denied offences relating to possession of weapons.
Webb’s representative in court said that he was a long-term user of heroin and crack and had been attending narcotics anonymous meetings since being remanded in custody two months ago.
In sentencing the two men this week, the judge described their crime as a ‘pathetic attempt at burglary’.
