Number of Chiswick Covid Cases Remains 'Unusually High'

One part of W4 has west London's highest infection rate

Vaccinations can be booked at the Fountain Leisure Centre

The number of Covid-19 cases in Chiswick grew by 43.8% in the latest week with one area of W4 now having the highest infection rate in west London.

The locality designated as Chiswick North East by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) had 29 cases in the week to 27 June giving an infection rate of 341.8 per 100,000 population. The Bedford Park area has also seen cases rise sharply and its current rate is 232.2. The number of positive tests in Chiswick South East more than doubled to give a rate of 178.5. The overall average for Chiswick is 191.6.

A local GP said, “Chiswick's rate of infection has been elevated for some time now so it isn't possible anymore to write this off as a statistical blip. However, it is hard to pinpoint what the reason or reasons for this might be for the unusually high number of cases in W4. The demographic profile of the area would suggest that we shouldn't be seeing particularly high rates at the moment. If I was to hazard a guess, I'd say that the significant proportion of children in the area going to school in the borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, where the number of cases is very high at the moment, is one of the factors at play.”

The rise in positive tests isn't universal across all of W4 with the Chiswick Park and Chiswick South West areas seeing a fall in the number of cases.

Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre is open to residents who have booked their appointment for their vaccinations from 9am-7pm Monday-Sunday. You will need to bring photo ID and your NHS number if you have one. Queues are likely

First or second doses of the vaccine are available for anyone over 18 on a walk in basis at Ark Acton Academy, Gunnersbury Lane, W3 8EY, on Sunday, 4 July, from 8am-12pm.

Currently the worst affected borough in London is Lambeth with weekly cases at a rate of 200 per 100,000 population closely followed by Hammersmith & Fulham at 199.

Having been one of the hardest hit boroughs for some time, Hounslow now has a infection rates well below the London average at 95 whereas Ealing's rate is 128.
