Anthony is known locally for his energy and charm
October 24, 2025
At nearly 83, Anthony Chamberlain is proving that retirement need not mean slowing down. The Grove Park resident, known locally for his energy and charm, has found a new calling as a commercial model — a role that’s taken him from supermarket campaigns to television sets, and even into the world of cake design.
Anthony spent three decades working as cabin crew for British Airways, including ten years as a cabin service director on jumbo jets. His career in aviation, marked by global travel and high-pressure hospitality, laid the groundwork for his current success. “Looking after 400 passengers required a bit of theatre,” he reflects. “That sense of performance has carried through.”
Since joining a national modelling agency that actively recruits older talent, Chamberlain has appeared in campaigns for Morrisons, Greene King, and the Royal College of Nursing. He’s portrayed care home clients, patients, and everyday consumers — roles that reflect a growing demand for relatable faces in advertising.
Suzy O’Connor, operations director at Models Direct, notes that mature models are increasingly sought after. “Real people, real stories — that’s why mature models are in such high demand,” she says. “Experience sells.”
Anthony’s varied background also includes training as a healthcare assistant and phlebotomist, and a stint making cakes for television productions. His creations — sometimes edible, sometimes decorative props — have featured in shows like EastEnders and Mr Selfridge. He’s also appeared on The Great British Bake Off’s An Extra Slice and is due to feature on the quiz show The 1% Club in November.
Despite the spotlight, Anthony remains grounded. “It’s important to keep busy,” he says. “If you don’t try, then you’ll never know what might have come of it.”
